“NEVER LET ANYONE CENSOR YOU”
Spok’End Wordz: A Poetry Collection (Minister’s first publication, available on Amazon now)
Ruins
Ruins and shambles
Hittin licks like life’s a gamble
Tryna survive, you forget what you stand for
Lights were the sacrifice
So get out the candles
Pray so much they sound like rambles
These days strangers look out more than family
So real most people can’t stand me
Expect the unexpected cuz life didn’t go how I planned it
Shit small right now but bet I’ll expand it
You ain’t gotta like me, but respect I demand it
You may not understand me
But you can’t reprimand me, judge me, or ashame me
Devil tryna hold me down but he underestimates me
God knows I can make it
That’s why he tests me
Life is a race, and you’ll never best me
I’m the tortoise, you’re the hare
Ready, Set, Go, Let’s See!
Up the mountains
Around the deserts
Over the oceans
And through the seas
When the journey gets too tough
God carries me
Breakin through the barriers
Leaving behind debree
Broken pieces of the things that made me
Fragments beneath me from breakin free
Appreciate the generations of struggle before me
Using facts and experience to teach
Gather round for a true story
Once upon a time
Life wasn’t so glory
As a child, they loved me
But they also ignored me
Leaving me defenseless with no army to support me
Ran away and to them I was basically deported
So the bliss of life, I explored it
And of course, I enjoyed it
The tables turned and I ignored it
Livin so nice but couldn’t afford it
Now we’re grindin’ to restore it
Goin in headstrong wit helmets on
Don’t know what we doin
But we gotta press on
Not takin no handouts
And won’t accept no clout
The hard way, we learned what life is about
Doin’ your best and being who you wanna be
Not livin for the rest, and just being free
It’s time to stop walkin’ on eggshells
And dwelling on when and where we failed
Cuz through the rapids we’ll sail
On this Earth,
We’re livin in The Ruins of hell.
